Mardaani 3 marks a darker, more unsettling chapter in Shivani Shivaji Roy’s journey as a cop. The film plunges her into an investigation involving crimes against young girls, exposing a system that treats
underprivileged lives as ‘cheap’ and expendable. What initially appears to be a local beggar mafia case slowly unravels into something far more disturbing, forcing Shivani to confront not just criminals, but an entire ecosystem of power, privilege, and silence.
Who Is Really Behind the Abduction Racket?
The case begins when Senior Superintendent of Police Shivani Roy is appointed by the NIA after Ambassador Sahu’s daughter Ruhani is abducted along with Jhimli, the daughter of her caretaker. The trail leads to Amma, also known as Mallika Prasad, who runs a beggar mafia targeting pre-pubescent girls. The victims are subjected to medical testing — those labelled ‘positive’ are killed, while those who test ‘negative’ are kept alive under her control.
As Shivani digs deeper, she faces pressure to prioritise Ruhani’s rescue over Jhimli’s, highlighting the film’s recurring theme of class inequality. During the investigation, she meets Fatima, a young constable who replaces her late mother. Fatima becomes a crucial ally after witnessing the abductors relocating Ruhani.
Another key figure is Ramanujan, an NGO founder who claims to work toward rescuing victims from trafficking networks. When he is attacked by Amma’s men, Shivani believes she has found an ally — a grave misjudgment that later costs her dearly.
How Shivani Roy Delivers Justice in the Climax
The narrative takes a shocking turn when Amma invades Shivani’s personal space, threatening her husband, Dr Bikram Roy, at their home. While Shivani races to save Ruhani, the truth emerges — Ramanujan is the real mastermind behind the operation. Amma is merely a front, while Ramanujan orchestrates the abduction and medical experimentation.
The ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ labels are revealed to be linked to cancer trials for a drug Ramanujan is developing. Ruhani had tested ‘positive’, sealing her fate. Despite Shivani arresting Ramanujan and Amma, systemic corruption ensures his release. A key eyewitness dies in custody due to Fatima’s momentary lapse, and Shivani is suspended, leaving justice out of reach through legal channels.
Refusing to back down, Shivani continues the investigation unofficially. With Fatima’s help, she wins Ramanujan’s trust and follows him to Colombo, Sri Lanka, under the guise of a business trip. Ambassador Sahu secretly aids the mission, allowing Shivani to track Amma and rescue the remaining girls. Amma is killed in an encounter, but Ramanujan meets a far more chilling fate.
After ensuring the girls’ safety, Shivani injects Ramanujan with the same experimental drug he used on his victims, leaving him in a vegetative state — alive, but stripped of power and agency. The film closes with Shivani’s suspension being revoked and her being considered for the President Medal, though her final message is clear: true justice demands the erasure of class divisions that enable such crimes to exist.
