After the shocking firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence, the director has reportedly decided to lie low for the next couple of days. According to a report by India Today, Shetty has cancelled all his scheduled plans and requested his close friends and industry colleagues not to visit his home for at least 48 hours.
Rohit Shetty asks friends to stay away for now
Quoting sources close to the development, the report stated, “Rohit is currently cooperating with the Mumbai Police and recording his statement. He is fully involved in the investigation. Despite additional security being provided at his residence, he has asked all his industry friends not to come home. He is responding to concerned friends and colleagues only
through calls and messages.”
The filmmaker is said to be focusing on assisting the authorities while ensuring that the situation does not escalate further, especially given the heightened security around his residential building.
Firing outside Rohit Shetty’s Juhu home: What we know so far
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, when unidentified assailants allegedly fired four rounds outside Shetty’s residential tower in Juhu. Police officials confirmed that no injuries were reported. Following the incident, heavy police deployment was made in and around the area, with forensic teams arriving to examine the spot and collect evidence.
In a significant development, five suspects have reportedly been detained in Pune in connection with the firing and later handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch for further questioning. Earlier in the day, the Crime Branch had constituted 12 special teams to trace and apprehend those involved in the attack.
Film body condemns incident, seeks CM’s intervention
Reacting strongly to the incident, the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) issued a statement condemning the firing and expressing serious concerns over the safety of filmmakers.
“The entire film fraternity is deeply shocked and concerned about the safety and well-being of one of the most respected and iconic filmmakers of the Indian entertainment industry. Such incidents create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, which is unacceptable,” the statement read.
The association also appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to personally intervene in the matter. “We are confident that the efficient Mumbai Police will take swift and strict action, identify and book the culprits at the earliest, and ensure complete protection to Mr Rohit Shetty and his family,” the statement added.
Rohit Shetty, one of Bollywood’s most successful commercial filmmakers, is best known for blockbuster franchises like Golmaal and Singham. The investigation into the firing incident is currently ongoing, with authorities yet to reveal the motive behind the attack.
