The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday rejected claims circulating on social media about a school holiday and a work-from-home directive for office-goers on Wednesday, calling them “false” reports. The civic body denied issuing any such directive.
In a post on X, the BMC wrote, “❌Schools in Mumbai will be closed on Tuesday, July 8, 2026. Likewise, a message is being circulated on social media stating that offices in the private sector have been permitted to work from home. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation hereby clarifies that this message is completely false and that the Municipal Corporation has issued no such notification.”

Mumbai Rain Update
The civic body had declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Tuesday following two days of intense rainfall that disrupted normal life across the city. However, with weather conditions improving, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) downgraded Mumbai’s alert from orange to yellow.
Rainfall eased on Tuesday, allowing public transport, including Mumbai’s suburban rail network, to resume normal operations after widespread disruption.
No fresh city-wide holiday has been announced by authorities. However, neighbouring Palghar district has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Although the rain briefly subsided on Tuesday morning, the heavy downpour over the past two days significantly affected transport services, infrastructure and daily life across Mumbai.
