In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old Hindu girl, who was missing since nine days, appeared before media after allegedly marrying a Muslim man who is already father to seven daughters. The girl was seen holding a certificate of conversion to Islam.
The girl from Korwah town in Badin district had gone missing around nine days ago. Her parents had lodged a complaint with the local police.
On Saturday, she made an appearance at the Badin Press Club alongside her purported husband, where photos were taken of her holding the conversion certificate.
Her father questioned how a deaf and mute minor could have agreed to marry a man who is a drug dealer and already has seven daughters.
Her father expressed disbelief, questioning how a deaf and mute minor
could consent to marry a man who is a drug dealer and already has seven daughters.
Shiva Kachhi, who heads the Darawar Ittehad Pakistan, an organisation working for the welfare and rights of Hindus and minorities, said the girl had been abducted, but the police failed to take any action despite the family’s complaint.
“We have spoken to our lawyers to pursue the case as we don’t believe the girl could have done this willingly,” Kachhi said, adding that he had also written to senior police officials demanding an independent inquiry into the incident.
“The question is — how did a mute and deaf girl accept Islam? A girl who has never heard temple bells ring, never heard the call to prayer (Azaan), never spoken a word to call upon her God, and cannot recite the Kalma — how could she possibly have embraced Islam?
And how can a marriage at the age of fifteen be considered legal?” Kachhi’s post on X read.
“The IG Sindh, DIG Hyderabad, and SSP Badin should take urgent notice of this injustice. Organizations working for women’s and human rights must also come forward to investigate this grave wrongdoing and ensure justice for the poor laborer family and the mute, deaf girl,” it added.
