Star Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has undergone rapid weight loss and has been advised more rest, after he was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis two days back, according to a report in The Times of India. Jaiswal was admitted to a hospital hours after a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match, where he represented Mumbai.
What seemed like a common stomach bug was diagnosed as acute gastroenteritis after an ultrasound and X-rays. Jaiswal received IV medication and has been advised to rest along with a prescribed course of treatment.
The report states that Jaiswal has been discharged from the hospital and returned to Mumbai. Having lost over two kilograms, he has been advised to take complete rest for the coming week.
“It is food poisoning. He ate something
in the Pune hotel, which has led to this. There was pain, but the condition is much better after timely medication. He has lost over 2 kgs already in the last two days and the doctors have asked him to rest at least for the next seven to 10 days,” a source told The Times of India.
Full recovery may take at least a week, raising the possibility that Jaiswal could miss the early games of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Mumbai will kick off their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign against Sikkim on December 24 and Jaiswal was expected to open alongside former India skipper Rohit Sharma.
“It will be touch and go for the first few matches for him to turn up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There are ODIs vs New Zealand after that too and he is likely to be in the squad for that series,” the source said.
It needs to be seen if Jaiswal can turn up for Mumbai’s game against Chhattisgarh on December 29.
The report states that the BCCI medical team is also monitoring Jaiswal ahead of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand beginning January 11.
