Leonardo DiCaprio has finally addressed the buzz around his viral Golden Globe moment.
In the video, DiCaprio appears to point at someone while mouthing “K-Pop,” seemingly referencing Netflix’s animated musical K-Pop Demon Hunters. As the exchange continues, he becomes more animated, clapping his hands and giggling.
The moment was shared on the awards show’s official TikTok account and caught the attention of netizens. Now, The One Battle After Another star, who received his eighth Academy Award nomination on Thursday, shared that he was speaking with “a friend” but he won’t be revealing who he was talking to.
Leonardo DiCaprio won’t “rat” out who he was talking to in viral Golden Globe moment
In an interview with Deadline, DiCaprio shared, “It
was directed to a friend, but at the end of the day, who knows if this other person that I was talking to wants me to even mention their name?”
He added, “ “So, as the lead character says in A Bronx Tale, I’m not a rat.”
Leonardo DiCaprio’s Co-Star Reveals Whom He Was Talking To
However, DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another co-star, Teyana Taylor, who won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture this year, later appeared on Access Hollywood and said he was speaking to her in the clip. The singer and actor would later walk her comments back on an episode of The Tonight Show.
“So when I first seen [the video], I didn’t watch the whole thing,” Taylor explained to host Jimmy Fallon. “So I was like, ‘Oh you’re talking about KPop Demon Hunters, he’s talking about me.’ But then I watched it and they was doing the lip-read thing, and I had to call Leo,” she said.
She added, I was like, ‘You can’t be talking to me, were you talking to me? Because I already told people you was talking to me.’ So apparently he had two KPop Demon Hunter conversations that night, so KPop Demon Hunters was just in his mouth all night.”
According to various lip readers online, the Titanic star said, “I was watching you with the K-pop thing.” He made some gestures and faces and continued, “You were like, ‘Is that? K-pop?'”
