Lucknow, Sep 19 (PTI) An air-conditioned roadways bus caught fire after it crashed into a divider near Kanpur-Hardoi Ring Road in Lucknow. The driver and conductor, who were the only occupants, escaped unhurt, officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred around midnight on Friday.
“The Janrath bus (bearing registration number UP 25 FT 9230), which was travelling from Para towards Dubagga, suddenly lost control upon reaching the start of the Bhuhar bridge and collided with the divider on the left side,” police said in a statement.
Approximately 2-3 minutes after the collision, the bus caught fire, and the flames spread rapidly throughout the vehicle. According to preliminary information gathered from eyewitnesses at the scene, the driver and conductor,
who were present in the bus at the time of the accident, managed to exit safely. The fire service was immediately informed, it said.
The fire department said that three fire tenders from Fire Station Chowk and two fire tenders from Fire Station Alambagh were sent to the spot after they received information about the fire at around 12.30 am on Saturday.
The fire was promptly brought under control and fully extinguished through coordinated pumping operations from all sides, it said, adding a thorough search of the bus confirmed that no one was trapped inside.
The bus suffered severe damage, the police said. PTI NAV RT RT
