Kalyan Bainsla, the accused of the Gurugram-hit-and-run case, rejected allegations that he deliberately rammed his car into a woman biker, saying the collision was accidental and that he was not aware a woman was riding the motorcycle.
In an interview with India Today TV, Bainsla said the full sequence of events should be examined through CCTV footage. He claimed that two bikers had repeatedly overtaken his car before moving ahead and slowing down.
“They were repeatedly coming in front of me and then slowing down the bike,” Bainsla said. He added, “Am I going around hitting everyone? You can check the CCTV.”
Bainsla claimed the bikers later turned their motorcycle without checking the car’s mirror and lost control, leading to the crash. He said
he accepted that a mistake had occurred.
“Let’s assume that the collision happened accidentally. I accept that a mistake happened,” he said.
He also denied that he was trying to hit the bikers, saying that he had instead been asking them to slow down.
“I was also saying in the video that you are riding well, but ride slowly. Don’t keep troubling me repeatedly,” he said.
Bainsla Says He Did Not Know Woman Was Riding
Bainsla said he felt sorry after learning that the woman had been injured. However, he maintained that he did not know who was riding the motorcycle when the crash happened.
“I am sorry that a mistake happened. I did not know that there was a girl on it,” he said.
The case came to public attention after footage recorded by cameras fitted to the motorcycles circulated widely online. The woman has alleged that the car followed her and was being driven aggressively before it struck her motorcycle.
Gurugram Police subsequently took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered an FIR against an unidentified person. The woman has also said that she will file an FIR through her lawyer and take legal action.
A fellow biker’s helmet camera captured the events following the collision as well. The footage shows the rider confronting the man briefly when the car stopped at a traffic signal, after which the sedan left the spot.
‘There Has Never Been A Case Against Me’
Bainsla also denied having faced any previous criminal case.
“There has never been a case against me in my name,” he said.
He further said he would respond to the allegations if they began affecting his family.
“If people are saying these things, and if it comes to my family, I will definitely speak up and say that nothing like this happened,” Bainsla said.
The allegations made by the woman and Bainsla’s account of the incident remain sharply different, with the viral footage and CCTV recordings expected to be important to the investigation.
