Two Indian Journalists Win Pulitzer Prize For Exposing Cybercrime

Indian journalists Anand RK and Suparna Sharma have been awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for their work on digital surveillance and cyber fraud.

The duo received the honour in the Illustrated Reporting and Commentary category, alongside Natalie Obiko Pearson of Bloomberg. Their project, titled “trAPPed,” tells the story of a neurologist in India who was held under a “digital arrest” via her phone, combining visuals and narrative to highlight the rising global threat of surveillance and online scams.

Administered by Columbia University, the Pulitzer Prizes are considered among the most prestigious honours in the field of journalism, literature, and music, recognising outstanding work in storytelling and reporting.

Who Is Anand RK?

to The Pulitzer Prizes website, RK is a Mumbai-based illustrator and visual artist. He won the Eisner Award in 2021 for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist, alongside colorist John Pearson, for the graphic novel ‘Blue in Green’ published by Image Comics.

A 2011 graduate of the Sir JJ School of Art, RK has illustrated titles such as Grafity’s Wall by Dark Horse Comics, Radio Apocalypse by Vault and Resurrection Man by DC Comics. He has also created cover art for publishers like Boom! Studios, 2000AD, Tiny Onion and Image Comics, and worked with clients including Hyundai, the Indian Navy, ImagineFX Magazine and Heavy Metal Magazine.
