Air India on Saturday issued a travel advisory warning passengers of possible disruptions to flight operations due to dense fog conditions forecast across Delhi and parts of northern and eastern India with the onset of winter.
In a post on X, the Tata Group-owned airline said reduced visibility during the early morning hours is likely to impact flight schedules at multiple airports, creating a ripple effect across its network.
“Weather forecasts continue to indicate dense fog conditions with reduced visibility in Delhi and parts of northern and eastern India tomorrow morning. This will affect flight schedules across the network,” Air India said.
The airline said it has taken proactive measures to minimise disruptions, but cautioned that unexpected
delays, diversions or cancellations may still occur due to fog.
In such cases, Air India assured passengers that ground staff would be available to assist with alternative travel arrangements.
Air India also highlighted its ‘FogCare’ initiative, under which passengers booked on select flights during the fog-prone window will receive advance alerts on their registered mobile numbers.
The service allows eligible flyers to change their flights without additional charges or opt for a full refund without penalty.
Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport and to allow extra travel time.
The airline said its 24×7 contact centre remains operational to assist customers and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, reiterating that the safety of passengers and crew remains its top priority.
The advisory comes amid widespread disruption at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
On Friday, dense fog enveloping the national capital and surrounding areas led to significant visibility reduction, forcing the cancellation of 152 flights, including 79 departures and 73 arrivals, according to reports.
Delhi airport is currently operating under CAT III conditions, resulting in delays and operational challenges.
Airport authorities have been issuing frequent advisories on social media, urging travellers to check flight updates with their respective airlines. Other carriers, including IndiGo, have also warned passengers of possible disruptions due to adverse weather.
Meanwhile, air quality in the capital has once again deteriorated, with the Air Quality Index touching 380, close to the ‘severe’ category.
The AQI showed marginal improvement from 387 earlier in the day, though 14 of the 39 monitoring stations in Delhi recorded readings above 400.
