The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained a doctor from Kanpur for questioning over suspected links with Dr Shaheen Saeed, the woman arrested in connection with the November 10 Delhi blast
that killed 13 people and left several others injured near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi.
According to sources, the Kanpur-based doctor was reportedly in contact with Dr Shaheen and is currently being interrogated by the ATS.
Investigators have learned that Shaheen visited Lucknow and Kanpur in August, and agencies are now tracking her movements during the visit, including details of where she travelled and whom she met.
Her Kanpur connection was brought to light during the ongoing interrogation.
Police officials confirmed that Shaheen served as a professor at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur between 2006 and 2012, after which she suddenly went missing without any formal notice.
Following these revelations, the Kanpur Police Commissioner has formed a Special Operations Team to assist central agencies and carry out an in-depth investigation.
The team has also been tasked with identifying and verifying Rohingya, Bangladeshi, and other foreign nationals living in the city.
Dr Shaheen Saeed, currently a faculty member at Al Falah University in Faridabad, was arrested for her alleged role in the high-intensity explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort.
She is accused of having links with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and of attempting to establish a women’s recruitment wing of the group in India.
A massive car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on the evening of November 10 claimed the lives of 13 people and left many others injured.
The car, being driven by suicide bomber Umar Nabi, exploded in a congested traffic area near the Lal Qila Metro Station (Gate 1), adjacent to the Red Fort’s Old Delhi area.
The vehicle involved was identified as a white Hyundai i20.
On Wednesday, the Centre termed the explosion a “terrorist incident”.
