Car owners in Bengaluru without dedicated parking space may soon have to pay significantly more to park their vehicles under proposed new parking rules.
The Karnataka government’s Urban Development Department has released the draft Greater Bengaluru Area (Parking) Rules, 2026, proposing annual residential parking permits of up to Rs 25,000 and on-street parking charges of up to Rs 80 per hour for cars.
The draft rules cover parking across the Greater Bengaluru Area and aim to regulate parking charges based on road classification and parking location.
Residents and other stakeholders can submit their objections and suggestions on the draft rules until September 11.

What Do The Draft Bengaluru Parking Rules Say?
Under the proposed system, on-street parking charges would vary depending on the category of the road.
For cars parked on Category C roads, the proposed fee is Rs 40 per hour. The charge would rise to Rs 60 per hour on Category B roads and Rs 80 per hour on Category A roads.
For two-wheelers, the proposed hourly charges would be Rs 20 on Category C roads, Rs 30 on Category B roads and Rs 40 on Category A roads.
This means parking a car on a Category A road for eight hours could cost Rs 640 under the proposed rates.
What About Off-Street Parking?
The draft rules also propose separate charges for off-street parking facilities.
For cars, the proposed hourly fee would range between Rs 20 and Rs 40, while two-wheelers would be charged between Rs 10 and Rs 20 per hour.
Monthly off-street parking charges are proposed to range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 4,000, depending on the location and parking category.
The draft also proposes a 50% concession on monthly off-street parking charges for vehicles parked between 8 pm and 8 am.
Residential Parking Permit
For residents who do not have adequate parking space, the proposed rules include an annual residential parking permit system.
The annual permit could cost up to Rs 25,000, depending on the applicable category and location.
The proposed system is aimed at regulating the use of public roads for residential parking and managing the growing demand for limited parking space in Bengaluru.
Since these are draft rules, the proposed charges are not final and could change after the government considers objections and suggestions from residents and other stakeholders.
