A video showing goats feeding alongside children during the midday meal at an anganwadi centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district went viral on social media platforms, prompting authorities to order an inquiry into the incident.
The incident occurred at Sehra Tola of Kothi village in the tribal-dominated Dhimarkheda tehsil, where the anganwadi centre (government-run pre-nursery centre) is being run from a private, dilapidated building for want of a government school, news agency PTI reported.
The viral video showed children seated on the floor and eating their midday meal while goats feed from plates placed next to them, consuming the same food. Neither the anganwadi worker nor the assistant is visible in the footage.
Chief Executive Officer of
the district panchayat Harsimranpreet Kaur told PTI that she came to know about the incident on Friday and ordered an inquiry.
Programme officer of the Women and Child Development Department Vanshree Kurveti said show-cause notices were issued to supervisor Anita Pradhan and anganwadi worker Meena Baiga.
“The report is likely to be received by tomorrow, and strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty,” she said.
Last month, another video went viral on social media, showing underprivileged children at a government school in Madhya Pradesh being served their mid-day meal on scrap paper lying on the ground.
The footage showed children sitting on the floor of the school compound in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district with no shelter, and their meal was served on pieces of paper that were spread on the ground. No tea
Local reports indicated that negligence in serving mid-day meals in the school was a frequent occurrence, with students receiving improper food or sometimes having no plates to eat from.
