28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo entered his name in the record books on Saturday (Sunday IST) by becoming only the third West Indies cricketer, after Brian Lara and Chris Gayle, to score a double century in a Test match against Sri Lanka.
Batting at No. 4 for the West Indies in the first innings of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, Jangoo brought up his maiden double century in only his second Test for the Caribbean side.
Jangoo, who scored a century on his ODI debut for the West Indies, needed 342 balls to reach the 200-run mark in the first innings of the opening Test. He completed his double century by taking a single off the first ball of the 142nd over of the West Indies innings,
bowled by Sonal Dinusha.
Lara was the first West Indies batter to score a double century in a Test against Sri Lanka. He made 221 runs off 354 balls in the first innings of the Test played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from November 29 to December 3, 2001.
