US-Iran War Latest News Updates Today Live: Iran has reportedly launched multiple anti-ship cruise missiles from Sirik in southern Iran, with reports saying an oil tanker was struck off the coast of Oman in the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz and caught fire. The reported attack comes amid heightened tensions over the strategic waterway, even as Iran and Oman are working towards an agreement on new shipping routes through the Strait.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that talks with Oman on “new maritime routes” through the Strait are in their final stages. However, Tehran has made clear that agreeing on new routes does not mean the Strait will immediately reopen.
Iran has demanded that the United States meet a series
of conditions, including an end to the war, the lifting of sanctions, withdrawal of US forces from the region and compensation for war-related damage.
The developments come as Tehran continues to maintain that messages are being exchanged with Washington through intermediaries, while insisting that formal negotiations cannot resume until what it calls US violations of an interim agreement are addressed.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, told Axios that Washington was “only semi-negotiating” with Iran and was watching the country’s economic pressures.
Amid the escalating tensions, Iran has also reshuffled its top security leadership. Former Revolutionary Guard commander Mohsen Rezaei has been appointed head of the Supreme National Security Council, replacing Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr. Rezaei had earlier warned that Iran would not permit unauthorised routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait remains central to the unfolding confrontation, with Iran seeking to impose conditions on maritime traffic while discussions continue over a possible temporary arrangement with Oman.
