Gone are the days when families relied solely on relatives, neighbours or family friends to find a suitable match for their children. From newspaper advertisements to matrimonial websites and dating apps, the search for a life partner has evolved considerably. Now, a new matchmaking method is making waves online by taking the hunt for rishtas a step further, with families listening to biodatas announced over a microphone.
A Delhi-based marriage consultancy has caught the internet’s attention with its unusual way of presenting the requirements of prospective brides and grooms. They did not circulate biodatas; instead, a man with a microphone was heard publicly announcing details of a prospective bride and the kind of groom her family was looking
for.
He Announces The Woman’s Biodata
A video of the announcement has gone viral, in which the consultant was heard announcing the details of an unmarried woman born in 1996. He mentioned her height as 5 feet 3 inches and said she works as a government school teacher, earning around Rs 90,000 a month. He further added that the family was seeking a boy with an annual income of around Rs 12-15 lakh.
Family members, who had gathered to look for suitable brides, soon crowded around him and clicked a picture of a sheet the man was carrying, which contained the woman’s details and photograph. At one point in the video, the consultant called the prospective bride “badhiya variety”.
Internet Has Mixed Reactions To The Matchmaking Event
The straightforward, almost auction-style way of announcing matrimonial requirements has amused the internet. The clip has also sparked humorous reactions about how far families can go in their search for the “perfect” match.
“It seems – Faridabad me car auction ho rahe hai,” said a user.
Another wrote, “I’ve watched enough for this life.”
Someone else penned, “But why is this in my feed… Although I searched for an antique auction last night. But still… WTH???”
Meanwhile, another section also called it out, writing, “Sharam karo yaar tum log.”
“Wtff ye machhlibazaar hai kya. Feel sad for people who even choose to find their life partners like this!” a different person quipped.
One particularly funny moment that caught the attention of the viewers was the way the announcer described the woman as a “badhiya variety” while presenting her profile to the gathering.
