An unexpected scene of chaos unfolded in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district when a woman allegedly attacked an elderly man in front of a government office. She reportedly poured oil on him and even attempted
to put a garland of shoes around his neck. The situation immediately drew attention from the crowd, and eventually police arrived to intervene.
According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, the man, identified as Deshbandu from Banda village located in Rakkar tehsil, had come to the subdivisional office in Dehra for a court hearing related to a case. The woman, identified as Asha Devi from Dobha village in Mandi district, confronted him unexpectedly, which led to a violent altercation witnessed by several people present.
The Incident Outside the Office
As per the report, Asha Devi suddenly threw a container of oil at Deshbandu, which soaked his clothes and hair. She then attempted to place a garland of shoes on him and reportedly slapped him multiple times. The commotion caused panic among the crowd, and people stepped in to restrain her. The police, who also tried to stop her, then took her into custody to initiate legal action.
Attack Caught On Camera
A video of the incident circulated online shows the full intensity of the attack. In the footage, Asha Devi can be seen holding Deshbandu by his collar and refusing to let him go, even as a police officer and bystanders try to intervene.
Deshbandu appears drenched in oil throughout the video. A police officer can be heard repeatedly urging the woman to stop, saying, “Chordo, maan jao (Leave him, please understand),” but she continues to resist.
At one point, she even slaps the elderly man while the officer tries to control the situation.
Whatever the issue may be, who gave this woman the right to attack an old man in broad daylight? If the roles were reversed, it would have been a national issue by now. And this is happening in the CM’s own home district, Dehra Hamirpur. pic.twitter.com/C671rPnpdB

‘Arrest Her’: Social Media Reacts
The video drew strong reactions from social media users who expressed shock and anger over the attack.
One user sharing the video of the incident wrote, “Whatever the issue may be, who gave this woman the right to attack an old man in broad daylight? If the roles were reversed, it would have been a national issue by now.”
Another said, “The attacker should have been arrested on the spot.”
“No matter what, the woman should’ve been jailed,” someone else added.
Reason Behind The Attack
According to Dainik Bhaskar, citing sources, the attack stemmed from an old dispute. Deshbandu had filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner Kangra regarding a case in the Rakkar tehsil.
The complaint alleged that a local village headman had manipulated the identity of a woman to register government land under her name. The land in question, located in Chameti village, Rakkar tehsil, was officially transferred to a woman named “Asha Devi, daughter of Bimla Devi, widow of Ramkrishna from Ramnagar village”, though the report states that no such woman existed in the family.
Deshbandu claimed he had only approached the administration to report the fraudulent registration. It is believed that the woman’s violent actions were a response to this complaint.
