Jaipur, Jul 26 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Sunday paid tribute to soldiers who laid down their lives in the 1999 Kargil War on the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Sharma visited the Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial here and laid a wreath to honour the fallen soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the nation, officials said.
“The sacrifice of the brave soldiers in Kargil will always remain a source of inspiration for the country,” the chief minister said, paying homage to their courage, valour and dedication towards safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation.
He said the Indian Army personnel displayed unparalleled bravery and determination in extremely adverse conditions during the conflict to uphold
the nation’s pride on the global stage.
“The nation will always remain indebted to its soldiers and martyrs for their supreme sacrifice,” he added.
Sharma also reiterated the state government’s commitment to the welfare and honour of serving soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families.
Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa, Minister for Soldiers’ Welfare Rajyavardhan Rathore, Chief Secretary V Srinivas and senior officers from the Army, police and the administration were present on the occasion.
A two-minute silence was observed during the ceremony in memory of the martyrs.
Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates the culmination of Operation Vijay, the name given to India’s military operation to reclaim the heights of Kargil after Pakistan’s infiltration, which culminated on this day in 1999. PTI AG ARI
