KL Rahul opened the innings for Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday (May 8) and scored 23 runs from 14 balls. He hammered four fours during his stay at the crease at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi before Kartik Tyagi picked up his wicket.

Rahul, who is playing his 24th IPL match for the Delhi-based franchise on Friday, needed 16 runs to complete 1000 runs in the IPL for DC, and he achieved the objective on the first ball of the fifth over of DC’s innings bowled by Kartik Tyagi.

Capitals. He broke JP Duminy’s record.
The former South African batter needed 35 innings to score 1000 runs in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. Former Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant also scored his 1000th IPL run for the Delhi-based franchise in his 35th innings.

By scoring his 1000th IPL run for DC in 24 innings, KL Rahul entered his name in the history books. He is the first batter in the IPL to score 1000 runs for multiple teams in fewer than 25 innings.
Rahul who has also scored more than 1000 runs in the IPL for Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, reached the 1000-run mark in the IPL for Punjab Kings in 23 innings.
The record of being the fastest batter to score 1000 runs in the IPL for one team is held by former West Indies captain and opening batter Chris Gayle. Gayle, who played in the IPL for RCB from 2011 to 2017, needed just 20 innings to complete 1000 runs for the Bengaluru-based franchise.
