Jaipur, Aug 12 (PTI) A teacher at a government school in Rajasthan’s Ajmer was suspended on Wednesday after students held a protest alleging that he had been engaging in inappropriate physical contact and their complaints had gone unheard.
The protesting students locked the main gate, following which locals also gathered at the spot. Police and education department officials reached the site and held talks with the students and their parents.
One of the girl students alleged that around 20 girls had submitted written statements against the 58-year-old teacher, alleging harassment.
A student said she had enrolled in Class 6 in 2021 and had allegedly faced inappropriate physical contact by the teacher. “Our voices were suppressed in the past. We
want justice and his suspension,” she said.
Govind Narayan Sharma, the Chief District Education Officer of Ajmer, said he had ordered the teacher’s immediate suspension.
“Looking to the seriousness of the matter, I have issued an order for the suspension of the senior teacher,” the CDEO said.
Station House Officer Jagdish Prasad said the protest continued for around two hours, after which the students were persuaded to end it.
The students and their parents were assured that a fair inquiry would be conducted and appropriate action would be taken, he said.
No case has been registered against the teacher so far, the SHO said. PTI SDA SMV RT
