A 25-year-old Mumbai entrepreneur has shared a detailed look at her monthly expenses, revealing that she spends around ₹52,000 even before accounting for savings, shopping, eating out or travel.
Jahnvi Shah, founder of marketing agency Buzzified, said her biggest regular costs include rent, travel, groceries, utilities and an iPhone EMI. Despite the high cost of living in Mumbai, she said the independence she gets makes it worthwhile.
Shah Pays ₹16,500 For Her Share Of Rent
Shah lives in a 3BHK apartment with two other people and has the master bedroom. Her share of the monthly rent comes to around ₹16,500.
“These are my major monthly expenses as a 25-year-old founder living in Mumbai, and no, rent is not even the scary part,” Shah said in her Instagram
video.
“I live in a 3 BHK with two other people, so there are three of us sharing the apartment. I have the master bedroom, and my share of the rent is around 16,500,” she said.
She also pays about ₹2,700 every month to rent furniture through Furlenco.
Groceries And Travel Add More To The Bill
Her grocery and daily shopping budget ranges between ₹8,000 and ₹10,000 a month. This includes purchases through Blinkit and food orders on Zomato.
“Groceries, Blinkit, Zomato together usually comes to around 8 to 10k, depending on how responsible I was that month, which is unpredictable,” she said. Getting around Mumbai for work and other activities costs her another ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 each month.
“Then there is commute between traveling for work, meetings, and just existing in Mumbai—that’s around 5,000 to 6,000 every month.” Electricity, WiFi and domestic help together account for another ₹3,500.
Her iPhone EMI Costs ₹12,000 A Month
Shah said one of her largest monthly payments is her iPhone EMI, which is ₹12,000. The amount is only slightly lower than her share of the rent.
“And then comes to my favorite financial decision, which is my iPhone EMI—that is around 12,000 every month,” she said. She also has several smaller digital expenses. These include Apple iCloud, Google Drive storage and subscription services.
“Then there are those tiny automatic deductions that don’t feel expensive individually, like Apple iCloud, Google Drive storage, subscription apps—until you add them all, it comes around 1,500 every month,” she said.
Her Monthly Spending Reaches ₹52,000
Adding up her regular expenses, Shah said she spends roughly ₹52,000 every month. This figure does not include savings, SIP investments, shopping, nights out, travel or unexpected costs.
“So before I even talk about savings, SIP, shopping, going out, travel, or unexpected expenses, my regular monthly spending is already roughly around 52k,” the 25-year-old said.
She acknowledged that Mumbai can be expensive but said she still values the freedom of living independently. “Expensive? Yes. Worth the independence? Also yes,” she wrote.
