'Will Inspire Many Young Sportspersons': PM Modi's Message To U-19 Cricket Team On World Cup Win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised India’s Under-19 cricket team after their World Cup victory, saying the win would “inspire many young sportspersons”.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said India’s cricketing talent had once again shone on the global stage. He congratulated the team for bringing home the U-19 World Cup and said they had played very well throughout the tournament.

“Proud of our U-19 team for bringing home the World Cup. The team has played very well through the tournament, showcasing exceptional skill. This win will inspire several young sportspersons too. Best wishes to the players for their upcoming endeavours,” PM Modi wrote.

India clinched the U-19 World Cup title for a record-extending sixth time after defeating England by 100 runs in the final held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

With this win, India strengthened their position as the most successful team in the history of the U-19 World Cup.

A major highlight of the final was opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who delivered a brilliant performance on the biggest stage of his young career. The teenage batter scored a stunning century, reaching the milestone in just 55 balls and playing a key role in India’s dominant win.

The 14-year-old Sooryavanshi smashed a record 80-ball 175, an innings comprising an astonishing 15 fours and 15 sixes as India also broke the record for the highest total ever in a U19 World Cup final. His innings is also the highest individual score in a summit clash of the tournament.
