Maamla Legal Hai 2 Review: At a time when streaming platforms have loads of thrillers, action and horror shows/films, it is difficult to find a good slice-of-life, comedy drama. But for this weekend, you don’t have to dig deep. Why? Because Maamla Legal Hai 2 has now been released.
The second season of Maamla Legal Hai is now streaming on Netflix, bringing back its signature blend of humour and heart. The comedy-drama features Ravi Kishan, Naila Grrewal, Anant Joshi and Nidhi Bisht in pivotal roles, among others.
While the first season revolved around Ravi Kishan’s Tyagi’s political ambitions and his election campaign, this time, his character steps into the role of a judge. Season two delves into how VD Tyagi navigates this newfound authority
while balancing personal relationships with the very lawyers he once stood alongside.
What truly sets Maamla Legal Hai apart is its seamless ability to marry humour with relatability. Every episode of the show offers something new to the viewers, with over-dramatisation and humour. However, nowhere, the show or the events feel exaggerated. Rather, it looks very relatable. Beneath the quirky courtroom chaos lies a reflection of everyday struggles, friendships and human equations, making it easy for viewers to see fragments of their own lives on screen.
Maamla Legal Hai 2 also raises important social issues like organ trafficking, casteism and gender based discrimination but with a pinch of humour. What really works is how the show avoids presenting things in clear-cut blacks and whites. Instead, it lets viewers explore the shades of grey.
Importantly, the series never turns preachy. It doesn’t spell out what’s right or wrong, nor does it try to lecture viewers. Rather, it quietly nudges you to reflect on the everyday issues, which have unfortunately become very normal.
At a time when audiences are constantly engaging with intense narratives, the series offers a much-needed breather, one that doesn’t compromise on impact.
But unlike season one of the show, Maamla Legal Hai 2 is paced slower. There are moments when you feel like the narrative hasn’t really progressed. While the show stands on strong performances and outstanding dialogue writing, it falls short due to a paper-thin plot and the overall treatment.
The show does not really deliver the same impact as before. While it has all the right ingredients — talent, humour and intent, it struggles to bring them together into a compelling, tightly woven narrative this time around.
That said, the series continues to shine in certain areas. The performances remain strong and consistent, with the cast bringing charm and authenticity to their roles. While Ravi Kishan plays his part brilliantly, Nidhi Bisht as Sujata deserves a pat on her back. Her dialogue delivery and expressions are top-notch.
Naila Grrewal shines as Ananya Shroff and is a delight to watch on screen. She has a style while playing Shroff in the show and it truly deserves appreciation. Joining season 2 is also Kusha Kapila and her scenes with Naila are a treat to fans. They both not only level up the comic elements in the show. But yes, Kusha should have been given more screen time. Her limited screen space does not allow her to explore enough.
Anant Joshi also brings charm on-screen with his humour and innocence. Anjum Batra as Lakhmir Mintu is also fun to watch. Law and Order aka Amit Vikram Pandey and Vikram Pratap also deserve appreciation for their acts.
Overall, Maamla Legal Hai 2 looks weak when compared to its first season but is still a good watch.
