Former Assam cricketer Subhadeep Ghosh is the frontrunner to replace T Dilip and Ryan Ten Doeschate in the Indian cricket team as assistant coach, after the duo’s contract came to an end and they were relieved of their duties, according to a report in PTI.
The BCCI is expected to appoint a new fielding coach ahead of the Sri Lanka tour. While secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that ‘two or three names’ are under consideration, the report suggests former India women’s and India A support staff member Ghosh is the frontrunner for the role.
“We are currently in talks with two to three names and expect to finalise the details within a day or two. India will have a new fielding coach for the tour of Sri Lanka,” Saikia said while speaking to PTI.
Ghosh,
from Assam, is the frontrunner for the role. He has been part of the BCCI setup for the past six to seven years, dating back to Rahul Dravid’s tenure at the National Cricket Academy.
Who Is Subhadeep Ghosh?
Hailing from Digboi in Assam, Ghosh made his first-class and List A debut for the state in the 1994-95 season. His last appearance was in the 2004-05 season.
A former first-class cricketer who represented Assam and Railways, Ghosh brings extensive playing and coaching experience to the national setup. He has transitioned from the field to coaching and, over the past few years, has held key support roles across several Indian national teams, giving him valuable exposure to the demands of international cricket.
Appointed in 2020, Ghosh helped prepare the Indian women’s team for key overseas tours, worked with the India U19 team during their World Cup campaign in South Africa, served as India’s fielding coach during the 2023 Asian Games gold medal run in Hangzhou and was also part of the support staff on the recent Zimbabwe tour.
