Trump pushed for a peace deal with Iran, a that maintaining that Washington prefers negotiations to war.
“There are options. Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever or do we want to try and make a deal?… on a human basis, I’d prefer (a deal)”, said the president during
a press briefing.
On Seeking Congressional Nod
President Trump signalled that he was unlikely to seek Congressional approval to extend the war against Iran, saying no one has ever sought it before.
“Nobody’s ever sought it before, nobody’s ever asked for it before. It’s never been used before, why should we be different?”
The remarks came as the US neared a deadline on Friday to end the Iran war or approach the Congress to extend it.
Iran’s Peace Proposal
Iran has offered a new peace proposal to the U.S. in an attempt to end stalled negotiations. Tehran passed the proposal to mediators in Pakistan on Thursday night.
However, the contents of the proposal remain unclear.
U.S. President Trump said he wasn’t satisfied with the proposal put forward by Tehran, saying, “They want to make a deal, but I’m not satisfied with it, so we’ll see what happens”.
