Sourabh Mittal, a 25‑year‑old engineer from NIT Kurukshetra, joined BPCL (Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited) at 22 with a salary of ₹20 lakh per year. The job was considered prestigious, but the reality was very different. He was posted in Siliguri and worked in a warehouse with no toilet, no drinking water, and broken facilities.
His complaints were ignored, and he had to use his home for basic needs. He described the workplace as outdated and abusive, with seniors shouting at him and even asking him to do personal tasks like airport pickups and hotel bookings.
There was almost no leave, calls continued late at night and on weekends, promotions were slow, and salary hikes were small. Most employees were much older, leaving little scope for
growth. Mittal said, “I couldn’t imagine spending my whole life like this.”
His father was upset because PSU jobs are highly respected, but his mother supported him after seeing the stress he faced. Mittal has now joined an MBA program in Gurgaon and is also exploring content creation to share his experiences with young professionals.
