Jamtara (Jharkhand), Jul 18 (PTI) Nine people have been arrested in Jharkhand’s Jamtara district for allegedly duping people online by promising huge cashback on mobile phone payments, police said on Saturday.
The arrests were made following raids at two locations on Friday. Of those arrested, eight were from Jamtara district, while one was from neighbouring West Bengal, Jamtara Superintendent of Police Shambhu Kumar Singh said.
“We received a tip-off that certain individuals were defrauding people by posing as fake customer care executives and bank officials.
They committed fraud under the pretext of offering cashback on PhonePe and tricked victims into sharing their 16-digit ATM card, CVV number, OTP, and other details,” the officer said.
Police
seized 27 mobile phones and 39 SIM cards from the accused. PTI RPS RPS NSD
