Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Ashok Sharma made headlines during their clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.
The young fast bowler delivered the fastest ball of the season, a fiery 154.2 kmph yorker to Dhruv Jurel, showcasing his raw pace and potential. Throughout his spell, Sharma consistently bowled above 145 kmph and even crossed 150 kmph twice in the same over, breaking Anrich Nortje’s earlier record of 150.9 kmph. He finished with figures of 1/37, dismissing Shimron Hetmyer.
Playing only his second IPL match, the 23-year-old has already made a strong impression. He had earlier touched 149.7 kmph on his debut and earned praise from GT captain Shubman Gill, who believes
he can become a key player for the team. Known for operating in the high 140s, Sharma combines pace with control, using hard lengths, swing, and clever variations such as slower balls.

“Ashok is rated highly for being able to swing the ball both ways, while also maintaining accuracy and consistency with his line and length. He has been part of the Rajasthan Royals camp in the past, where he was a net bowler and earned praise from many players in the squad. He also impressed the KKR management at their trials camp and was bought by the franchise for INR 55 lakh in the 2022 TATA IPL Auction,” wrote iplt20.com.

Ashok Sharma’s Journey
Sharma’s rise has been rapid. He first gained attention in domestic cricket, especially in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he was Rajasthan’s leading wicket-taker. Before that, he impressed in the Rajasthan Premier League and had earlier been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup in 2022. Gujarat Titans secured him for ₹90 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction, underlining their faith in his abilities.
Coming from a small village near Jaipur, Sharma’s journey is inspiring. Supported by his elder brother, who sacrificed his own cricket dreams, he worked hard to reach this level. His ability to bowl at extreme pace, along with learning from experienced teammates like Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Kagiso Rabada, makes him one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in India.
