The national capital is witnessing a continued rise in air pollution. The AQI remains in the very poor category and, on some days, comes close to crossing into the severe category. School-going children
who board their buses early in the morning are among the worst affected.
Parents say their children are facing serious health problems, including persistent sneezing, coughing, and cold-related issues. Delhi Parents’ Association President Aparajita Gautam says, “Students immunity levels are weakening, and they are suffering from these issues at a time when term examinations are approaching.” Many are struggling with mucus congestion and throat infections, she added.
Meanwhile, schools are taking precautionary measures to safeguard students’ health. ITL Public School Principal Sudha Acharya says, “Advisory guidelines have been issued to parents. Students have been advised to wear N95 masks. All early-morning outdoor activities, including the assembly and sports sessions, have been suspended.
Schools can shift to online mode only when Stage 3 of the GRAP is imposed. However, with the CAQM deciding to continue Stage 2 due to forecasts of improving air quality, offline classes will continue for now.
Still, major concerns persist regarding the health of schoolchildren, and many parents are demanding online classes considering Delhi’s worsening Air Quality Index.
