While many people spend their 80s slowing down and enjoying retirement, 82-year-old Mansukh Kaka has become an internet sensation after a video highlighted the extraordinary effort he puts into earning a living.
The heartwarming video was shared by Mumbai-based content creator Aradhana Chatterjee on Instagram. It tells the story of a man who refused to let adversity define his future. Despite facing major setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mansukh Kaka chose resilience over retirement and started a small business selling homemade farsan on a footpath near his home.
According to Chatterjee, Mansukh Kaka spent decades working as a salesperson in a saree shop. However, the pandemic brought unexpected challenges. After falling ill during that
period, he reportedly lost his job. The situation also affected his family, as his son had to step away from work to look after him while he recovered.
While many might have viewed such circumstances as the end of their professional journey, Mansukh Kaka saw it as an opportunity to begin again. Once he regained his health, he decided to start a modest venture selling homemade snacks.
Even today, Kaka spends nearly 12 hours a day at his roadside stall. The snacks he sells are not sourced from outside suppliers but prepared at home with the help of family members. Chatterjee revealed that his sister makes the farsan fresh every day before it is carefully packed and brought to the stall for sale.
The viral clip shows Mansukh Kaka arranging packets of snacks in an orderly manner and greeting customers with a warm smile. One detail that particularly resonated with viewers was his commitment to maintaining records. In the video, he can be seen carefully noting every transaction and expense in a small diary, reflecting his discipline and dedication despite his age.
Although the work requires long hours and considerable effort, the financial returns remain limited. According to Chatterjee, Mansukh Kaka earns roughly Rs 300 on a good day. Yet, his determination and work ethic have inspired thousands online.
Sharing the video, Chatterjee wrote, “Even at this age, Mansukh Kaka is trying his best to run his stall with so much passion and hardwork, let’s all come together to support him.”
The post quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with users praising the elderly vendor’s perseverance and encouraging others to support his business.
“Can you tell me where he sells these? I’ll go there and buy ☺️” said one user.
“Has anyone observed that he is tucked in his shirt, looks very professional and determined. Tooooo great, just hat’s off 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️” said another user.
“I have seen him. He’s literally the sweetest!!🥹 Pls Buy from him if y’all can.?” commented a third.
“Women who support men 👑 & Men who work hard for their families 👑 in a single frame!!” wrote another.
One local resident also shared a personal connection to the vendor, writing, “His stall is 5 mins from my house and we often purchase from his stall 🙏 Thanks for promoting him and his shop 🙏”.
