The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to allocate land for an aircraft manufacturing facility in another district of the state. Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are reportedly competing to host the high-profile
project.
Aircraft Manufacturing Centre in the Works
In a major push to strengthen the aviation manufacturing sector, the Andhra Pradesh government is planning to establish an aircraft manufacturing centre in the undivided Anantapur district. Reports suggest that Adani Aerospace has entered into a partnership with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to set up a production unit in India.
Embraer enjoys a strong global reputation for manufacturing aircraft and components used for commercial travel, business aviation, and defence purposes. Sources indicate that the proposed unit may primarily focus on small and mid-sized passenger aircraft.
Both Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat are vying to secure this strategic project. However, Andhra Pradesh has taken the lead by offering land and essential infrastructure. The state government has already responded positively to land allocation requests.
If the project materialises, it is expected to attract investments worth several thousand crores and generate large-scale direct and indirect employment. Officials say greater clarity on the project is likely next month.
Proximity To Bengaluru Is A Key Advantage
One of the major reasons for considering the Anantapur district is the availability of vast tracts of land. Its proximity to Bengaluru has also emerged as a significant advantage. The government has been actively working to develop the region as an aviation manufacturing hub.
Recently, Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation received approvals to manufacture electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in the area. The company plans to invest Rs 1,300 crore to set up a six-seater aircraft manufacturing unit across 500 acres, branded as a ‘Sky Factory’. The project aims to roll out air taxi services by 2029.
Turning Point for Anantapur’s Development
With additional vacant land available in the region, the government has prepared proposals to allocate large parcels for aircraft manufacturing. Plans are also underway to develop a massive industrial park spanning nearly 20,000 acres, including 8,844 acres earmarked for the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub near the Kodikonda check post in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Sources indicate that issues related to land under the Enforcement Directorate’s purview are also being addressed. The area’s proximity to the national highway and Devanahalli International Airport further enhances its strategic importance. Officials have assured that land allocation will be tailored to the requirements of the company.
Overall, the proposed aircraft manufacturing project is expected to become a major catalyst for the economic and industrial development of the Anantapur region.
