The Golden Globes are back, and Hollywood is ready to roll out the red carpet once again! Kicking off the 2026 awards season, the 83rd Golden Globe Awards promise a morning of glamour, laughs, and star-studded moments, with Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Emma Stone among this year’s nominees.
The ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, starting at 6:30 am IST on January 12, and viewers in India can watch it live via Lionsgate Play.
Host Returns for Second Year
Comedian and actor Nikki Glaser returns to host for a second consecutive year after her highly praised solo debut in 2025. Glaser made headlines last year for her sharp, witty monologue, calling
the ceremony “Ozempic’s biggest night.” Her approach balanced humor and edge, though she was notably less biting than during her famed roast of Tom Brady.
“I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus’ who will finally recognise my talent and cast me in Season Four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past,” Glaser said. She also called the experience “the most fun I have ever had in my career.”
Last year, the Globes telecast attracted roughly 10 million viewers, maintaining its audience from the previous year. While viewership has declined compared to a decade ago, the Golden Globes remain one of the most-watched awards shows, trailing only the Oscars and Grammys.
Top Contenders and Nominations
Leading the pack in nominations is One Battle After Another with nine nods, including acting nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti and a directing nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson. The film is categorized in the musical or comedy segment, meaning DiCaprio faces competition from Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme and George Clooney for Jay Kelly.
In the supporting actor and actress categories, Chase Infiniti competes with Cynthia Erivo for Wicked: For Good, Emma Stone for Bugonia, and Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
Second in total nominations is the Danish drama Sentimental Value with eight nods, featuring Renate Reinsve, who will compete against Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Julia Roberts (After the Hunt), and Jennifer Lawrence (Die My Love). Male actors up for drama awards include Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) and Dwayne Johnson (The Smashing Machine). Supporting nominations feature Ariana Grande, Teyana Taylor, Paul Mescal, Adam Sandler, and Jacob Elordi.
On the television side, The White Lotus dominates with six nominations.
Presenters: Hollywood Icons and Rising Stars
This year’s roster of presenters combines A-list stars and emerging talent. Confirmed names include George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Queen Latifah, Amanda Seyfried, Ana de Armas, Dakota Fanning, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lisa from Blackpink, Snoop Dogg, Will Arnett, Zoë Kravitz, and many others, alongside the leads of Heated Rivalry, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams.
Understanding the Golden Globes
The Golden Globes, held every January, are the first major ceremony of the awards season. Unlike the Oscars, the Globes are voted on by journalists and critics rather than the broader Academy membership, making them unique in tone and selection. The ceremony is renowned for its lively, champagne-soaked atmosphere, where major stars sit together in a nightclub-like setting.
While a win doesn’t guarantee Oscar success, it can provide significant momentum for actors and films, and acceptance speeches often become highlights leading into the Academy Awards, which will take place this year on March 15.
Lifetime Achievement Honorees
Helen Mirren will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her legendary career in film, while Sarah Jessica Parker will be honoured with the Carol Burnett Award for her contributions to television. Both stars will attend a separate Beverly Hilton gala this week, with a recording airing Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in what is being called Golden Eve.
Mirren, 80, won an Oscar for The Queen in 2006 and has three previous Golden Globe wins, with a fourth nomination this year for MobLand. She was named a Dame of the British Empire in 2003. Past DeMille Award recipients include Walt Disney, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, and Viola Davis.
Parker, 60, is recognised for her iconic work in Sex and the City as both actor and producer. The Carol Burnett Award, launched in 2019, celebrates outstanding contributions to television; past honorees include Norman Lear, Ryan Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres.
