Former West Indies skipper Jason Holder entered his name in the history books on December 28 by breaking Rashid Khan’s world record of taking the most T20 wickets in a calendar year. The 34-year-old cricketer from Barbados, who has 97 wickets to his name in 87 T20Is for the West Indies, played 69 T20 matches for six teams – Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Islamabad United, Khulna Tigers, Los Angeles Knight Riders, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, and West Indies – in the ongoing year 2025 and dismissed 97 batters.
Before Holder, the record for most T20 wickets in a calendar year was in the name of legendary Afghanistani spinner Rashid Khan. Rashid played 61 T20 matches for seven teams – Adelaide Strikers, Afghanistan, Durban Heat, ICC World XI, Kabul Zwanan,
Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Sussex – in 2018 and picked up 96 wickets.
In the list of bowlers with the most T20 wickets in a calendar year, Holder and Rashid are followed by Dwayne Bravo and Noor Ahmad, who dismissed 87 and 86 batters, respectively.
