Sometimes, the most memorable Bollywood moments come with stories fans never hear about, little behind-the-scenes twists that quietly shape what ends up on screen. One such detail from a beloved 90s film recently came back into the spotlight, thanks to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt.
During an appearance on Indian Idol, Bhatt shared an anecdote about the making of the popular track Ghoongat Ki Aad Se Dilbar Ka from Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. The film, starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, remains a favourite among audiences even decades after its release.
Recounting the incident, Bhatt revealed that he was not present during the shoot of the song as he was occupied with another schedule in Jodhpur. He said, “Main actually Jodhpur mein shayad tha koi dusri
schedule mein busy tha, and yeh song ek tarf shoot hona tha, and kaafi important song hain film mein.”
He went on to add that the responsibility of filming the sequence was handled smoothly in his absence. “Main toh vaha tha Jodhpur mein and you wont believe yeh pura song ek toh Saroj ji ke choreography aur Aamir khan ke direction mein shoot hua sahi samay par aur yeh gaana toh aaj bhi logo pasand hain.”
The revelation sheds light on how Aamir Khan stepped in to direct the song, working alongside legendary choreographer Saroj Khan. The track went on to become one of the standout musical moments of the film and continues to enjoy popularity.
Released in the early 1990s, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Tahir Hussain, with a screenplay by Aamir Khan and Robin Bhatt. The film featured a strong supporting cast including Kunal Kemmu, Navin Nishchal, Tiku Talsania, Dalip Tahil and Mushtaq Khan.
The film received positive reviews upon release, with particular praise for Juhi Chawla’s performance, which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. It also went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Film and received the National Film Award – Special Jury Award / Special Mention (Feature Film). Over the years, it has been adapted into other languages, including Telugu and Malayalam.
