Rajinikanth’s Latest And Upcoming Films
Rajinikanth is all set to appear in the action comedy Jailer 2. The film is a sequel to the 2023 film Jailer. In the upcoming film, Rajinikanth will reprise his role as the titular character from the first film. Jailer 2 will also cast S. J. Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa in other prominent roles. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on June 12, 2026.
Thalaivar 173 is a tentative title for Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, which is slated for a 2027 release. Produced under Kamal Haasan’s banner, the film was originally announced with director Sundar C, but he stepped down due to schedule conflicts. Sai Pallavi and Kathir are rumoured to be a part of the film; however, the makers have not yet made any official announcement.
Rajinikanth’s Padayappa To Re-Release In Theatres On The Thalaivar’s 75th Birthday
Released in 1999 and directed by KS Ravikumar, Padayappa was a blockbuster that cemented Rajinikanth’s dominance at the box office. Despite its immense popularity, the film was telecast only a handful of times and never made available on OTT platforms. The reason was deliberate: Rajinikanth, who not only starred in but also produced and wrote the story, wanted to preserve its exclusivity. In a recently released video, he explained, “I did not give the rights to any telecast player, despite multiple requests. I wanted people to watch it only on the big screen. It should be a kondattam (celebration) for fans on my 50th year in cinema.”
Now, 25 years later, Padayappa is set to re-release on Rajinikanth’s75th birthday, December 12, 2025, giving fans a chance to relive its magic in theatres. The film featured a stellar ensemble cast including Sivaji Ganesan, Ramya Krishnan, Soundarya, and Abbas. While Rajinikanth’s trademark style and screen presence were celebrated, the film is equally remembered for Ramya Krishnan’s unforgettable portrayal of Neelambari, one of Tamil cinema’s most iconic female antagonists. Her fiery confrontations with Rajinikanth remain etched in the collective memory of audiences.
