Telugu actor Allu Arjun has been named, along with 22 others, as an accused in the chargesheet over the stampede that occurred during a premier show of the actor’s ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre in 2024. The incident claimed the life of a woman and left her young son seriously injured.
The 100-page chargesheet, filed before the 9th ACJM Court in Nampally by the Hyderabad Police, named the theatre management as the prime accused for failing to implement crowd control measures despite knowing the actor would visit, while Arjun has been named as accused no 11, news agency PTI reported.
The list of 24 individuals also includes Allu Arjun’s personal manager, members of his staff, and eight private bouncers whose actions allegedly
exacerbated the chaos.
The police report highlights several critical lapses that led to the fatal event.
Charges have been invoked under Section 304-A of the IPC (causing death by negligence) against the theatre owners, alongside other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing hurt and endangering public safety.
What Happened At The Sandhya Theatre?
On December 4, 2024, a woman died in a tragic incident that took place during the Pushpa 2 screening at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The chaos unfolded as massive crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of the film’s star, Allu Arjun, who was attending the event alongside music director Devi Sri Prasad. In the ensuing commotion, the theatre’s main gate collapsed, resulting in a stampede. A 35-year-old woman lost her life, and her 9-year-old son sustained severe injuries.
Following the incident, police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station based on a complaint lodged by the deceased woman’s family.
Arjun was arrested on December 13 in connection with the stampede and released from jail on December 14 after the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail. He was granted regular bail later. The actor and the makers of the film ‘Pushpa’ had extended financial assistance to the family of the boy. The Telangana government had also announced financial assistance to the family.
