New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) The Public Works Department is planning to develop an Artificial Intelligence-based software for detecting road defects, debris and garbage affecting vehicle movement, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, the Intelligent Road Maintenance Monitoring System (IRRMS) will manage road-related complaints from multiple data sources.
“The platform will enable unified visibility of complaints and resolution by the department. The system will support the detection of garbage, debris and roadside obstructions affecting road cleanliness, safety or movement,” an official said.
PWD, which manages around 1,400 kilometres of roads in the city, is planning to gather information from a network of 1,500 CCTV cameras in the initial
phase and then expand it further.
“Under the system, a mobile application to facilitate periodic, trimester-based road inspections will be developed. It will also systematically capture and review the road condition data,” the project plan read.
The mobile application will support geo-tagged video capture of road conditions. The captured data will be linked to the location for accurate inspection and reporting, the plan further said.
According to officials, a tender has been floated in this regard for developing the software at a cost of Rs 32 lakh with a deadline of 12 months. PTI SSM APL APL
