Director Jeethu Joseph has officially confirmed that Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal in the lead role, will release in theatres in April 2026. The update comes shortly after the makers announced that the film’s
shooting had been completed, with initial reports suggesting a Summer 2026 release window.
Speaking at the inauguration of a hospital, Jeethu revealed that the much-awaited third instalment of the blockbuster crime drama franchise will arrive on the big screen in the first week of April. The director also urged viewers to walk into theatres without carrying the heavy baggage of expectations that surround the franchise.
Addressing the audience, Jeethu said, “Drishyam is a film that has influenced a lot of people over the years. It carries a huge weight of expectations within itself, and I ask everyone to watch it without any big expectations. The film will be available to watch in theatres in the first week of April. The official release announcement will be made soon. Additionally, on January 30, my other film, Valathu Vashathe Kallan, is releasing. I am confident it will be a good movie.”
Original to release months before Hindi remake
Jeethu Joseph’s confirmation also puts an end to speculation surrounding the release strategy of the Malayalam original and its Hindi remake. Earlier, reports had suggested that both versions of Drishyam 3 might hit theatres simultaneously. However, the makers of Ajay Devgn’s Hindi adaptation have announced an October 2, 2026 release date, placing it nearly six months after the Malayalam version.
This staggered release means Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 will reach audiences well ahead of the Hindi remake, maintaining the franchise’s tradition of the original setting the narrative tone.
Drishyam 3 continues the story of Georgekutty, a middle-class man whose quiet family life is thrown into turmoil after IG Geetha Prabhakar’s son, Varun Prabhakar, goes missing. The original film followed Georgekutty’s desperate attempts to protect his family as suspicion closed in on them, while the 2021 sequel expanded the narrative and explored the long-term consequences of his actions.
The third instalment is expected to delve deeper into the family’s journey, opening a new chapter in the gripping saga. Alongside Mohanlal, the film will feature Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopi, Siddique and others reprising their roles.
