The Pakistan Cricket Board is seeking billions in unpaid dues from partners as Pakistan Super League teams are demanding their pending revenue shares, according to a report in PTI.
The demand for dues is from defaulting teams, broadcast and business partners, which the board would need to fill its organisational coffers.
As per the report, legal notices were issued to multiple Pakistan Super League teams, along with business and broadcast partners, requesting them to clear outstanding dues or risk legal action that could result in the termination of their contracts.
“Initially, some defaulting franchises of the Pakistan Super League were also sent notices to clear their outstanding annual fees or face action. These franchises have now cleared their dues
but also asked the board to clear their share from the central pool for the franchises pending since 2010,” a PCB source said while speaking to PTI.
As per the report, when a team raised concerns over delayed annual payments, alleging that the Pakistan Cricket Board hadn’t released its full share of around PKR 96 crore (Rs 32.74 crore) from the central pool for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League, the board responded that it couldn’t clear dues unless contracted parties fulfilled their own financial commitments.
According to the report, PCB still owed some teams 40 to 45 crores from the central pool of the Pakistan Super League for last year.
As per the report, the biggest defaulter to the PCB was a company that had bagged broadcast, media and commercial rights for the Pakistan Super League and other international cricket, but claimed heavy losses and is yet to clear dues of around PKR 4.5 billion.
“Because of this, the board hasn’t been able to keep its financial records up to date and audit its accounts,” the source said.
