Arundhati Choudhary defeated England’s Chantelle Reid in a one-sided bout on Saturday (August 1) in Glasgow to win the gold medal in the women’s 70kg boxing final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026. The 23-year-old boxer from Kota, Rajasthan, dominated all three rounds, each lasting three minutes, to secure the top spot.

Arundhati’s gold medal is India’s fifth in boxing at the ongoing CWG 2026. Before her, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary and Priya Ghanghas had also won gold medals for India.
Preeti claimed the gold with a dominant 5-0 victory over Canada’s Scarlett Delgado in the women’s 54kg before reigning world champion Jaismine clinched the yellow metal with the same
scoreline against Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, who was the defending champion in the women’s 57kg.
Sakshi then beat Ruby White of England in women’s 51kg final 5-0 to win India’s third boxing gold of the day.
It was a harder final bout for Priya who beat Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh of Canada 4-1 in a split verdict in the women’s 60kg.
In previous editions of the Commonwealth Games, Indian female boxers had managed to win only three gold medals combined. However, at the ongoing CWG 2026, India have already won five gold medals in women’s boxing events.
Indian female boxers can win one more gold medal on Saturday, as Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain is set to compete in the women’s 75kg final from 10:15 PM IST.
Lovlina already has an Olympic, World Championship, Asian Championship and Asian Games medal to her credit. On Saturday, she will have the opportunity to add a Commonwealth Games medal to her collection and join MC Mary Kom in a very special list.
Before Lovlina, only Mary Kom had managed to win at least one medal for India at all five major boxing events: the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Championships, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
3 male boxers also in contention for gold
India have won five gold medals in boxing at CWG 2026 so far, and they could add four more yellow metals to their tally. Apart from Lovlina Borgohain, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal will also feature in the gold medal bouts of their respective categories.
So far only Jadumani Singh has managed to win a medal for India in men’s boxing at ongoing Commonwealth Games.
