Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s latest remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have triggered a sharp response from BJP leaders, with several accusing him of using inappropriate language and questioning his approach to Parliament.
Speaking at an event on Thursday,Gandhi took a dig at PM Modi while discussing student protests and the government’s response to public dissent.
“Our job is very simple, and we can drive them crazy. I’m telling you, PM Narendra Modi does not sleep at night. There are different reasons. There is an obvious reason, and there are many hidden reasons too,” Gandhi said.
He also questioned Shah’s absence from Parliament during the recent student protests.
“You saw Amit Shah,
the so-called—what was he called? Chanakya, what else? Sardar Patel. Where has he disappeared? He couldn’t come to the Parliament House for 20 days. Why? Because for the first time, they are feeling India’s expression,” Gandhi said.
BJP’s Reaction
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj strongly criticised Gandhi over his comments about the Prime Minister, saying his remarks were not appropriate for someone holding the post of Leader of Opposition.
“The uncultured, undignified, obscene and indecent remarks Rahul Gandhi made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made him look less like the Leader of the Opposition and more like a failed stand-up comedian. He was resorting to locker-room talk and cheap innuendos. The Leader of the Opposition has a very important role in any democracy. India deserves a better Leader of the Opposition than a 54-year-old man behaving in a juvenile manner,” Swaraj said.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, “Rahul Gandhi’s actions prove that he has lost his mental balance. This is the behaviour of a professional anarchist, who is venting his frustration on the democracy of this country. This also makes it clear and proves why Rahul Gandhi is unfit for public life.”

Union Minister Giriraj Singh also targeted the Congress leader, accusing him of being frustrated and questioning his mental state.
“A person who is mentally bankrupt, Rahul Gandhi falls into that category… Today, Rahul Gandhi’s frustration is clearly visible on his face, and he seems to have become mentally unstable. If Sonia Gandhi does not get him treated, one day he could become a danger to himself,” Singh said.
BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, meanwhile, accused Gandhi of repeatedly changing his demands instead of agreeing to a debate in Parliament.

“What does Rahul Gandhi want? First, he said he was ready for a debate, then he demanded a resignation, then he said to discuss NEET, then he demanded Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Now, when Amit Shah has said that he is ready to sit for 24 hours and debate anything, Rahul Gandhi suddenly says that Amit Shah should resign. So, Rahul Gandhi is neither ready for a debate nor for Parliament…” Prasad said.
