'Savage Crime': Iran Vows Response After US Strike Kills 5 At Wedding, Slams Global Silence

Iran on Wednesday vowed a firm response to what it called as a “savage crime” after a US strike hit a residential home hosting a wedding celebration in the southern Iranian city of Kuhestak, in Sirik County.

In a statement posted on X, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei accused the US of adding the wedding strike to what it called a wider “catalogue of atrocities” against Iran.

Baqaei said the attack killed “more than 50 innocent men, women and children”, and criticised governments and international institutions for remaining silent.

“More dangerous than the bomb itself is the normalization of bombing; and more dangerous than silence is the conversion of silence into legitimacy,” he added.

He also warned that those who ignore what it called unlawful attacks would eventually face their consequences.

“When unlawful attacks and brutal crimes are whitewashed for political convenience, the line between condemning a crime and normalizing it disappears. Those who remain silent today will not be immune to its consequences tomorrow. Turning a blind eye to injustice does not contain it; it only emboldens the perpetrators,” Baqaei stated.

Iran Condemns Wedding Strike

The Iranian Red Crescent has since updated the death toll from the strike to five people, including a child, with more than 50 others reported wounded.

The Red Crescent said shrapnel from a US missile struck a residential home in Kuhestak while a wedding celebration was underway. Iranian state media reported extensive damage at the site, while footage shared by a government-linked account showed debris around the affected property.

It was not immediately clear what target the US military was seeking to hit in Sirik County. Washington has yet to comment on the reported strike.

Tensions Escalate Across Region

The latest incident comes amid a renewed escalation between Washington and Tehran, with Iranian media reporting explosions in several areas along and east of the Strait of Hormuz as well as in southern Iran.

Iranian forces have since launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against US-linked facilities across the region, including in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq.

The confrontation follows months of heightened tensions and repeated military exchanges. Tehran has vowed to respond to US strikes, while Washington has warned that any further Iranian retaliation could trigger a stronger military response.
