President Vladimir Putin on Friday asserted that Russia will continue to provide steady energy supplies to India, reaffirming Moscow’s role as a major fuel partner for New Delhi amid Western pressure over
India’s rising purchases of discounted Russian crude.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi, Putin said Russia remains committed to meeting India’s fast-growing energy demand.
“We are ready to continue uninterrupted shipments of fuel for the growing Indian economy,” he said, adding that bilateral energy cooperation remains strong.

“Our countries are gradually moving to mutual settlements in national currencies, which already account for 96% of commercial transactions. We are also witnessing successful partnerships in energy, stable supplies of oil, gas, coal, and everything required for India’s energy needs.”
His remarks come at a time when Western nations have repeatedly criticised India’s rising energy trade with Russia, alleging that revenues from these sales help Moscow fund its war effort in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Modi, in his remarks after the summit, said strengthening economic engagement with Russia is a priority for New Delhi.
“To increase economic cooperation between India and Russia is our priority, and for this we have agreed on an economic cooperation programme till 2030,” he said.
PM Modi highlighted the durability of India-Russia ties, saying the relationship has remained “steadfast like a pole star” through global upheavals over the past eight decades.
He also noted progress toward an early conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Pointing to growing collaboration in strategic sectors, PM Modi said cooperation in critical minerals would be vital for securing and diversifying global supply chains.
On the Ukraine conflict, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s long-standing position on dialogue and diplomacy.
“India has advocated for peace on the Ukraine issue from the very beginning. We welcome all efforts being made for a peaceful and lasting resolution. India has always been ready to contribute its part and will remain so in the future,” he said.
