India Test captain Shubman Gill has reportedly been discharged from a Kolkata hospital where he was admitted after a neck injury. A video is being widely shared on social media showing the cricketer leaving
the healthcare facility wearing a cervical collar.
Given his state, it appears highly unlikely, though not certain, that Gill could miss the 2nd Test between India and South Africa which is slated to get underway from Saturday.

Will Gill Play 2nd Test?
India head coach Gautam Gambhir says the call over Gill’s availability will be taken after being assessed by the physios.
“He (Gill) is still being assessed. So, let’s see. The physios will take a call today evening and we will take a call,” Gambhir told reporters after the conclusion of the first Test between India and South Africa on Sunday.
Gill’s Neck Injury
Gill looked visibly uncomfortable prior to the start of play on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test. However, he walked out to bat in India’s first innings and immediately after opening his account with a slog-sweep for four, he walked off the field alongside the team physio. It was revealed that he was stretchered off to a hospital with a neck injury and was reportedly kept in the ICU for observation.
Later, BCCI announced he won’t bat in India’s second dig.
“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play,” BCCI said in a statement.
“He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” the statement added.
India trail 0-1 in the two-match series following their 30-run defeat inside three days. The second Test will be played in Guwahati.
