Vivek Singh, hailing from the small village of Rimari in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, achieved what millions of young people aspire to. Coming from a farming family, Vivek attained the rank of DSP
(Deputy Superintendent of Police) in MPPSC 2024 without any coaching, limited resources, and after three failures. His story of relentless hard work, dedication, and perseverance has become an inspiration for many young individuals.
Vivek’s father, Devlal Singh, is a farmer, and the family sustains itself on just four acres of land. His mother, Rajkali, is a homemaker, and his younger brother, Vikas, holds an MBA. Despite financial constraints and limited resources, Vivek dreamed big, according to News18 Hindi.
He began his education in the village government school, later attending Delhi University and then JNU, where he completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in political science.
Vivek’s journey was challenging. He failed to clear the MPPSC prelims on his first attempt. While he cleared the prelims on his second and third attempts, he couldn’t pass the MPPSC mains. However, he didn’t give up. He identified his weaknesses, particularly his slow writing speed. To improve, he joined a test series in Indore and practiced extensively. His hard work paid off on his fourth attempt, securing the position of DSP by scoring 864 out of 1685 in the OBC category.
He never relied on coaching and studied seven to eight hours daily, which, he said, led to his success. His cousin, Sachin Singh, an assistant professor, guided him throughout his journey.
While studying in Delhi, Vivek lived in a small two-room house with four friends and prepared for the UPSC and MPPSC exams. Even with limited resources, he analysed past question papers, thoroughly studied the syllabus, and developed his strategy. Mock tests significantly aided his preparation for the Mains and interviews.
For Vivek, becoming a DSP is just a stepping stone. His ultimate dream is to become an IAS officer. He said this is just the beginning; there is still a long way to go. His hard work and passion suggest that he will achieve this goal.
