A rare and alarming medical case from Samastipur district in Bihar has stunned both the public and the medical fraternity. A 35-year-old woman had been living with a mysterious lump growing inside her abdomen for a long time, which eventually weighed nearly 10 kilograms.
Initially believed to be a routine health issue, her condition steadily worsened. Doctors later revealed that had she reached the hospital any later, saving her life would have been extremely difficult.
Patient Identified As Savita Devi
The woman was identified as Savita Devi, wife of Mukesh Paswan, a resident of Ward 9, Karimanagar Panchayat, in the Mohiuddinagar block of Samastipur.
According to her family, Savita Devi began experiencing severe abdominal pain and abnormal swelling around two months ago. At first,
they sought local treatment, hoping the problem would subside.
Desperate Search For Treatment Across Cities
When her condition showed no improvement, the family began travelling in search of medical help. She was taken to Patna, Hajipur, Patori, Samastipur, Delhi, and Kolkata for consultations and diagnostic tests.
During examinations at several hospitals, doctors suspected cancer, a possibility that left the family deeply distressed and fearful. Despite visiting multiple medical centres, no definitive solution was offered.
Last Hope At Muskan Seva Sadan Hospital
With Savita Devi’s health rapidly deteriorating, the family finally decided to admit her to Muskan Seva Sadan Hospital, where her life took a dramatic turn.
Doctors described her condition as critical upon arrival. Diagnostic tests and a CT scan revealed that the massive abdominal growth was pressing against other internal organs, leading to breathing difficulties, persistent pain, extreme weakness, and severe discomfort.
Four-Hour High-Risk Surgery Saves Her Life
Dr Sunil Kumar, Director of Muskan Seva Sadan Hospital, said that given the seriousness of the case, a special medical team of five doctors was immediately assembled. The team included experienced surgeons, anaesthesia specialists, and assistant physicians.
A highly sensitive and high-risk operation lasting three and a half to four hours was performed, during which the 10-kilogram mass was successfully removed from her abdomen. The surgery marked a major medical achievement for the region.
Following the operation, Savita Devi’s condition improved rapidly.
Doctors Call It A Once-In-A-Lifetime Case
Dr Umesh Prasad, a retired medical officer from the Bihar government, said he had never encountered such a case in his entire career. He admitted that there was considerable fear before the surgery, given the size and complexity of the tumour.
However, he added that the experience, coordination, and confidence of the medical team gave everyone the courage to proceed.
Family’s Trust And A Timely Decision
Savita Devi’s family expressed complete faith in the doctors and stated that they did not wish to seek treatment anywhere else. According to the medical team, had the surgery not been performed at the right time, the woman would not have survived.
Doctors explained that carrying such a large abdominal tumour causes extreme pain and suffering. Thankfully, following the operation, Savita Devi is now completely safe, and her family has finally breathed a sigh of relief.
