Having slumped to a surprising loss in the first T20I to Ireland, Shreyas Iyer and his team would have to make a strong comeback when they take on the Irishmen in the second and final T20I of the series at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast on Sunday, June 28.
Playing their first game since lifting the T20 World Cup, the reigning champions suffered one of the biggest upsets in their history as Ireland defended 182, bowling India out for just 148 to register their maiden international win against in Belfast on Friday.
It was hardly the start Iyer would have envisioned on his return to T20Is after 963 days and his first assignment as India’s T20I skipper.
With a five-match series against England all set to start in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday,
Iyer, who has succeeded India’s T20 World Cup-winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav, will be keen to end the brief Ireland tour on a winning note.
The biggest concern from the opening match was India’s batting collapse.
Sanju Samson, India’s T20 World Cup hero three months back, lasted just four deliveries before becoming debutant Jai Moondra’s maiden international wicket.
Ishan Kishan and Iyer too fell for single-digit scores inside the powerplay as India slipped into early trouble.
