The love story of Suriya and Jyotika has long been celebrated by fans, but a candid revelation by the actor’s father has shed light on the challenges they faced early on. Veteran actor Sivakumar recently shared that he was initially opposed to their relationship, before eventually giving his approval after witnessing his son’s determination.
Sivakumar Recalls Initial Opposition
Speaking in an interview, Sivakumar opened up about his reservations when Suriya first expressed his desire to marry Jyotika. He admitted, “Initially, I didn’t accept his love. However, he was very adamant and said that he would only live with her; otherwise, he would remain single for life. Then I thought about how, over the course of my career, I acted in around 150 films, and most of them had the concept
of love marriages. So I finally agreed.”
He also offered a glimpse into Suriya’s personality at the time, describing him as shy and reserved. According to Sivakumar, it was actor Radikaa Sarathkumar who encouraged Suriya to speak openly with Jyotika — a step that eventually laid the foundation for their relationship. Reflecting on the present, he added with humour that the once-reticent young man is now a family man raising two children.
Suriya and Jyotika tied the knot on September 11, 2006, after falling in love while working together on Poovellam Kettuppar. Over the years, their partnership has evolved into one of the industry’s most admired marriages, with the couple raising their children away from the spotlight while continuing to pursue acting and production projects.
Actor’s Busy Line-Up Ahead
On the professional front, Suriya is preparing for the release of Karuppu, a fantasy action entertainer directed by RJ Balaji. The film reportedly follows a lawyer possessed by a deity who battles injustice, with Trisha Krishnan playing the female lead.
He is also working on his next family drama tentatively referred to as Suriya46, which features Raveena Tandon and Mamitha Baiju in prominent roles. Another project in development is a cop action-comedy tentatively titled Suriya47, directed by Jithu Madhavan and co-starring Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen K. Gafoor.
