Eggs are a breakfast staple for good reason; they’re high in protein, rich in nutrients, and keep you feeling full for longer. Each egg contains about 60–70 calories, six grams of protein, five grams of healthy
fats, and around 186 milligrams of cholesterol. They’re also packed with essential vitamins and minerals, offering vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and calcium. In short, eggs deliver a powerful nutritional boost in a small package.
But for years, many have avoided them, especially the yolk, because of the popular belief that “eggs raise cholesterol and are harmful for the heart.” Now, a doctor, who specialises in gastroenterology, has shared how he turned eggs into “a gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory powerhouse”, highlighting that they aren’t just another source of “cholesterol.”
Doctor Recommends People To Have Whole Eggs
He shared his five-step guide for making eggs that are better for the gut and help reduce inflammation. “First, crack in two whole eggs. For most people, up to 2 yolks a day is perfectly fine. The cholesterol scare around eggs is outdated science,” the doctor mentioned in the clip posted on Instagram.
For step 2, people would need to add a pinch of turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties and black pepper to enhance the turmeric’s effectiveness. He added that this combo is his “secret gut-friendly hack.”
He Suggested Adding Vegetables To The Eggs
The doctor suggested, “Step 3, don’t forget salt, but keep it light.” He also asked people to load the eggs with their choice of veggies, as they add fibre. “Tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and even olives. This adds fibre, antioxidants, and healthy fats that your gut microbes love,” he explained, adding that eggs needed to be cooked gently, scrambled or an omelette is fine as long as they are not drowning in oil.
In the caption, he wrote, “How to Turn Eggs into an Anti-Inflammatory Powerhouse (Doctor-Approved). As a gastroenterologist, here’s how I make eggs better for my gut and lower inflammation. Do you usually eat your eggs plain or try adding anti-inflammatory ingredients? ”
