Mumbai Indians’ rising star Tilak Varma and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Jamie Overton were involved in a brief on-field exchange during their IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night. The argument lasted only a few seconds, with MI veteran Suryakumar Yadav stepping in and also having a word with Overton.
The incident occurred after Overton delivered the final ball of the 10th over.

Aside from that moment, the contest was played in good spirit. MI players, including Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar, were seen congratulating
Sanju Samson after his superb century powered CSK to a record win over the hosts.
Samson has bounced back from a slow start to his CSK stint, scoring two centuries in the span of four matches this season. After managing just 22 runs across his first three innings, he responded with an unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals, followed by 48 against Kolkata Knight Riders. Despite a single-digit score against Sunrisers Hyderabad last weekend, he rose to the occasion in this high-profile clash against MI, reaching his century with a boundary off the final delivery of CSK’s innings.
His unbeaten 101 guided CSK to a formidable 207/6 in 20 overs.
CSK’s new-ball bowlers then took control, with Akeal Hosein and Mukesh Choudhary dictating terms during the Powerplay. MI slumped to 29/3 in six overs, with two of their top three batters dismissed without scoring.
Suryakumar and Tilak, fresh off a scintillating hundred against Gujarat Titans, attempted to rebuild with a 73-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, Hosein (4/17) broke the partnership by bowling Tilak for 37, triggering a collapse as MI were eventually bowled out for 104 in 19 overs, slipping to their fifth defeat of the season.
On the other hand, the win, CSK‘s third of the ongoing campaign, lifted them to fifth on the points table. They next face Gujarat Titans on Sunday afternoon.
